Manufacturing Science
Machine acceptance is a science that concentrates on many statistical techniques.  It requires a blending of the various methods to derive a viable boundary for functional machinery.  The practice then recommends performing systematic tests to assure the machine meets the minimum criteria.  While not a science unto itself, it is an area in which to discuss overlap of the techniques.  To that extent we introduce the Manufacturing Science page.

The graphic below illustrates the theory behind having an MSA threshold at 30% of the tolerance.  The relationship between capability {true and perceived} and %R&R becomes strong.  Notice the process running a true capability of 1.67 with 30% R&R will perceive a capability of 1.5.  Not a terrible depletion but enough to necessitate action plans at a time when PPAP is in full swing.  Also notice that at 60% R&R it is impossible to achieve a 1.67 capability.
