Measurement System Analysis [MSA]
MSA is the science of understanding measurement variation.  The tests involved reduce the measurement error to its constituent components allowing the responsible engineer the opportunity to improve the measurement system.

The discipline aids in understanding whether the device is sufficient to describe the underlying variation.
